Dear Prudie I would like some bad advice No comments yet

Although Emily Yoffe has been reasonably good recently with her Dear Prudence columns, with very little that was standout, horrifyingly wrong, she went back to her original days of “ask for her advice, then do the opposite” with this week’s selections.

Case 1: guy is bringing his gal to his parents’ beachhouse. And gal doesn’t shave. Pits and legs, his parents are okay with, but she will have pubic hair! She’s going to be wearing a bikini! He’s already asked her about it, and she refuses, because it’s important to her.

Prudie says: tell her to shave! It’s a small gesture and she will shame both of them if she doesn’t. Well, there’s a solution. “Dear girlfriend, I am embarrassed to be seen with you and all your pubic hair. It’s ugly and you’re not good enough for my parents, and I don’t really care about your values. But you’re still the one.” Now, of course, it’s too late for other solutions, like warning your parents in advance and asking if she’d wear something over her bathing suit (part of the time, or initially), or asking her to wear boy shorts initially instead. Or just, you know, supporting her. Shame her into being what you want! That’s the foundation every successful relationship is built on.

Case 2: student living in dorms wants to complain about another student who isn’t breaking school rules, and who for some bizarre reason objected to living with a drug dealer.

It’s gotta be hard. The res director seems okay with what sounds like overt drinking and drug trafficking in the dorms, plus loud music at whatever times it’s not allowed, and some killjoy wants to maybe sleep sometimes, or study, or not have the risk of drug dealers living right next door, and she has no one to turn to, because the RD ignores her. Having given up on any of these people ever liking her, she’s gotten to the point where she bitches on facebook. (This strikes me as useless, but what do I know.)  Can the other students complain that she’s preventing them from breaking rules and is just a killjoy?

Prudie says: whistleblowing is wrong! Who would ever want someone to make sure that people are following rules? This girl is a meanie so let’s get the university to punish her instead.
